5055 Fill Station for CO2 Cylinders

Cylinder Filling Instructions.

The 5055 Fill Station is designed to fill all US and Canadian CO2 cylinders
by Qualified Personnel Only.

If a person is not trained in of the 5055 serious injury can occur. To operate this filler you must have a source of liquid CO2 such as a fifty (50) pound syphon cylinder, an accurate scale to measure the amount of the fill in the target cylinder and insulated gloves to protect your hands. Note: All cylinders must be filled with liquid CO2 and the weight of the CO2 put into the cylinder to be filled must not exceed the rated weight of the cylinder. All CO2 cylinders are designed to contain the designated weight of CO2 in liquid form. Exceeding the allowed weight of liquid CO2 could result in a very dangerous condition for you and your customer and violates all DOT requirements. Note: This fill station is not for paintball cylinders.

Operation

  • This kit is for filling your own cylinders and is not intended to fill cylinders for other people. You must have a DOT certificate to fill a CO2 cylinder for someone else.
  • Inspect the cylinder to be filled to be sure it is in date and has no physical damage. If there is any sign of dings, dents, rust or other improper marks DO NOT FILL the cylinder.
  • Connect the cylinder to be filled to the flexible end of the fill station using one of the white CO2 stem washers supplied.
  • Connect the rigid end to the CO2 source cylinder also using another of the white CO2 stem washers supplied.
  • Be sure both valves are closed (Yellow handles) perpendicular to the axis of the valves.
  • Open the valves atop both the source and target CO2 cylinders.
  • Open the bleed ball valve; this is the one closest to the muffler.
  • Empty all the gas from the cylinder to be filled and leave the bleed valve open.
  • Place the empty cylinder on a suitable scale (not supplied) and weigh the empty cylinder. Check the top of the cylinder to see that the TW (tare weight) stamped on an upper portion is about the same as the weight you measure. Some may vary by an ounce or more due to the fill station attachment. If it is not within 2 ounces STOP. Check all information on the tank and see that your scale is not out of calibration.
  • Copy down the empty weight of the cylinder and add the cylinders capacity weight (2.5 pounds for a 2½ pound cylinder, 5 pounds for a five pound cylinder and so on.) The sum of this addition is the cylinder weight you must never exceed when the cylinder is full.
  • When you have the fill weight calculated and the tank has been inspected for damage and certification dates close the bleed valve.
  • Open the source cylinder valve and the yellow ball valve closest to the source tank and add about two or three ounces to the target cylinder then close the source ball valve.
  • Open the bleed valve and allow the escaping CO2 to cool the cylinder to be filled.
  • Close the bleed valve and open the source valve and carefully watch the scale to see when the target cylinder is near the full weight.
  • When you are near the full weight shut off the fill valve, close the target cylinders shut off valve and with gloves remove the fill station from the target cylinder.
  • Check the weight again to be sure the cylinder is not over filled. If it is: open the cylinder valve and let off some till the cylinder is below the target full weight.
  • Close the source cylinders shut off valve if you will not be refilling another cylinder for some time.

Remember filling a carbon dioxide cylinder requires a trained person and careful attention to details. Never let a cylinder in the open sunlight or in a closed vehicle. This fill station is not designed for use by the public and Crossfire Engineering Inc. will accept no liability for its use by the untrained. This is not a toy.
